The Publishing Chronicles 1: Write a Book in One Week

Nobody cares about your book. Now, we can move forward and actually get you to write your manuscript. People have many limiting beliefs about creating art that prevent them from taking action.

When you release your first book into the five million+ books on Amazon, you’ll realize no one cares. Your book won’t change the world nor cure world hunger. It’s just a book.

Trust me; I have released over 500 books on Amazon. In fact, I release a new book every day of the week. “How do you publish a book every week?” you ask. Simple, I use my expansion technique.

Start a Coaching Business towards Passive Income

My background. I am not a professional writer; I am a US Marine by day. I work in the military by day and grind out books by night. Take my advice with a grain of salt.

However, I have amassed a massive library of articles and books by writing every day. This article is for the people who love to write. Many people want to publish a book but not write it (they use ghostwriters). I love the thrill of starting with a simple topic and turning it into a full-fledged book.

The expansion technique. The method I use is called the “expansion technique.” Yes, I made up the name, but it works wonders for me.

In a nutshell, the expansion technique looks to break down your current topic further into deeper pockets of information. Think of it as a spider web of data.

The Hunt for Baby Bonds

As you can see in this article you are reading; I have links to my previous works. These are articles I have written over the last two years. They help expand the depth of the current theme.

The more I write, the more I realize I need to expand on a particular idea, topic, subject, or speaking point. This realization directs me to another article to write. The more I write, the more I need to write.

Getting started. Don’t worry; I will give some examples, and then we can expand on a topic together. But let’s get you started on the path of writing your first book.

  1. Start with a subject or topic
  2. Write 1,000 words on this topic
  3. Pick six bits of information we can expand upon
  4. Write 1,500 words about the other six topics over the week
  5. You should have a 10,000-word book in one week

It seems simple because it is simple. However, your first book will be garbage, and that’s perfectly fine. Your first works are supposed to be trash. Do your best and keep writing.

Investing for Interest 4: Bountiful Bond Funds

If you look back at your work in one year and aren’t ashamed, you haven’t made significant progress in your endeavors.

Let’s give it a try together. Now, I want to walk through a topic together. Remember, the first time you write a book, you won’t have a massive stable of articles to assist you. You’re starting your collection of articles from scratch.

Your first topics will be broad. Let’s start with “How to Start a YouTube Channel.” After writing the first 1,000 words on this topic, you come up with the following six expansion topics.

  1. Video tips
  2. Audio tips
  3. Lighting tips
  4. Content tips
  5. Daily routines
  6. Engagement tips

Now, you can continue to write each of these sub-topics over the next week. You will probably have much more than 10,000 words netting you a 40-60 page book by the end of the week.

You may be asking, “do short books sell?” Yes, they sell well. Most people do not finish the books that they buy. Creating short books gives the reader the chance to finish quickly and consume another one of your books for more information. I’m a massive fan of short books.

As you can see, I can further expand my sub-topics into even more books because they offer even more depth. I like to read more books on each sub-topic to get even more information.

Email Money: Dividends, Rents, & Royalties

Reading, consuming, writing, and expanding allows me to create a never-ending stream of content. The more I write, the more topics I want to expand on and the more books I need to read.

A personal example. I have tons of examples because I have tons of books; however, let’s start with the topic of homesteading. As a finance writer, I became fascinated with the idea of living on a homestead with passive income.

I knew nothing about homesteading, so I decided to read multiple books on the topic.

  1. The Homesteading Encyclopedia
  2. Apartment Gardening
  3. Composting for Beginners
  4. How to Start a Worm Farm Business
  5. Shipping Container Homes

I combined this new information with my knowledge of dividends, income investing, and business to create the Dirt to Dividends series.

  1. From Dirt to Dividends 1: Gardening & Preferred Shares
  2. From Dirt to Dividends 2: Livestock & Closed-End Funds
  3. From Dirt to Dividends 3: Insects & Business Development Companies
  4. From Dirt to Dividends 4: Community Farming & Mortgage REITs
  5. From Dirt to Dividends 5: Composting & Dividend ETFs
  6. From Dirt to Dividends 6: Vermiculture & High-Yield Blue-Chip Companies

Sometimes more is better. I can now negotiate my Dirt to Dividend series into more topics such as “moving to a homestead,” “homestead life vs. city life,” and “how much it costs to live on a homestead.”

Become a Bonafide Investor VI: Debt vs. Equity

As you can see, being a writer is a never-ending process of adding value to the world. I write every day because it hones my thinking skills and keeps me sharp.

How sharp are you? It took me 15 minutes to formulate the ideas for this article. Because I already have 900+ articles, I can use those to complete a book in one day.

However, you don’t have to recycle articles; you can write a new book every week. I go with the mantra that most people will only read one of your books. It would take a truly hardcore reader and fan to read “The Biggest Book on Passive Income Ever!” and “The Biggest Book on Passive Income Ever 2!” plus the other 100 articles I have written since then.

That is over 800,000 words or the equivalent of 27 (30,000 words) books. It’s a ridiculous amount of writing, and I still have 1,600 ideas on my “waiting to write” list. It all started with the topic expansion of the word “passive income.”

  1. Financial Mindset: Become CEO of Yourself 2 (Free 196-Page PDF)
  2. Retirement Planning: Your Retirement Planning Guide 2 (Free 255-Page PDF)
  3. Investing: How We Plan to Retire on Dividends 2 (165-Page Free PDF)
  4. Cryptocurrencies: Counting on Crypto 2 (Free 159-Page PDF)
  5. Real Estate: Financial Independence through Real Estate 2 (Free 123-Page PDF)
  6. Business: Retire Rich, Retire Comfortable with a Business 2 (Free 185-Page PDF)

I have been expanding these topics for over a year, and I will never run out of content. I can see people reading my articles and broadening their minds as they go through the various topics. They choose their own passive income adventure through my books and blog posts.

Grace & Passive Income

Conclusion. Don’t overthink writing your first book. Just write it using the expansion method. In the next article in the series, I will discuss creating artwork for your book.

You’ll need a cover. Yes, your first 25 covers will suck, but you’ll be surprised by how fast you can learn to design.

Hopefully, you found this article helpful. As I said, I am not a professional writer. However, I sell books every day without advertising because I publish so many books. People are bound to find at least ONE of my covers appealing.
