How to Start a Business Cheaply

The future of the economy is unknown. Will we delve into a recession or start the next bull market? We all must lay and wait, but we can take massive action to improve our chances.

One way to change our fortunes is to start a business. When people think of business, they think of physical stores and shops.

However, all businesses should start online via content marketing. Luckily, content marketing is free for everyone to use.

What’s So Great About Being Independent?

What is content marketing? Content marketing is making long-form (or short-form) content to convey a point or topic to an audience.

Everyone who creates content is a content marketer; however, they may not even know they are marketing to anyone.

The purpose of a business is to sell a product or service. To generate revenue, you must have an audience.

Two ways to sell to an audience. There are two ways to sell to an audience: build your own audience or pay to use someone else’s.

The best place to build your audience online is through a website. If you create blog content, you can slowly drive organic traffic to the site.

You can capture your visitors by creating a reward for them to join your email list. Eventually, you will have search traffic and a hefty email list. However, organic growth is slow at best.

Using someone else’s audience. You can also pay to use someone else’s audience to generate traffic via advertising

The Business of RV Life

Think of the Super Bowl, which is one of the biggest spectacles on Earth. The cost to run an ad in 2022 was $233,000 per second.

The NFL has done a fantastic job of creating an audience around their sport. They are now reaping the benefits of driving traffic to watch their game. Now they can convert eyeballs into cash flow.

What about content platforms? Content platforms like YouTube, Medium, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Kindle, and Apple Podcasts have their own audience.

The best part of these platforms is that you can leverage their built-in audience to create your own platform. You do this by creating engaging content

You start by releasing content on one of these platforms. You slowly build an audience using their tools, metrics, and algorithms.

How to build an audience for free. The goal of building your audience on YouTube (as an example) is to push your Superfans to another platform slowly.

Your Superfans will follow you wherever you go, but they may only comprise one percent of your total active audience.

A Child’s First Book on Passive Income

Once you start gaining traction on YouTube, you can guide your most dedicated members to a site like Patreon. On Patreon, they can support you directly.

Once you have a good monthly income from YouTube and Patreon, you should open a website.

Starting your blog. Starting a blog does cost money, but you should have cash flow from your first platform.

You must have unique content for people to follow you on Patreon and a blog. Why a blog? Blogs are the best platform for driving long-term organic content.

Earned Income vs. Passive Income

Building an email list can be very expensive as well. You must offer an incredible incentive for people to hand over their email list.

Maintaining an email list via hosting sites is expensive. You pay for the total number of email addresses that the site hosts. The more addresses you collect, the more you will pay.

However, email is one of the best converting forms of advertising. In the long run, your email list will give you much more freedom and autonomy than using other people’s platforms.

Starting your business for free. Congratulations, you just started your business for free. But wait, what business?

You started a content-first business by creating enough free content to build an audience of loyal fans. These fans donated monthly income via Patreon that you parlayed into a blog and email list.

Now you have algorithm traffic on YouTube, fans on Patreon, organic traffic on your blog, and direct access to fans via email marketing.

My 24 Favorite Blue Chip Stocks

You have everything it takes to build a massive long-term business. And you did it the 100% safest way you could have.

The content-first approach. People want a business that looks like a business. They want an office, a desk, and a window to look out of as they ponder their next move.

You don’t need any of that when you are starting. Chances are you have a full-time job and perhaps a family.

You have to leverage your creativity to grow an audience. I am in year three of my content-first business, and it has been a fantastic journey.

Conclusion. This process will take a long time. I expect my business to take 5-10 years to produce massive fruit.

However, you will build a rock-solid foundation that can carry much more than any other business.

For example, I have 700+ books on Amazon right now—each is its own advertising platform. Companies can pay me to advertise inside my best-selling books.

You have to think about the long term. Most companies are paying to access someone else’s network or audience.

Annuities vs. Dividends

You have an audience via blogging, writing, and video recording. If you produce an online course, you don’t have to pay anyone to advertise it.

That’s the power of content marketing; your fans will get to know you and your company, and you will get to know them.

They will tell you what products they want, and you can create a product for your audience—not the other way around. Good Luck!
