The Bait Resignation: Should You Quit Your Job?

Since the 2020 pandemic, we have heard the chatter about “The Great Resignation.” This is a movement where people quit their jobs because they are unfulfilled.

I have never, never, never thought about quitting my job because of my satisfaction level. I have no idea when people started to believe that their job should make them happy.

Today, I want to explore why people are unhappy at their jobs and what we can do AWAY from our jobs to ensure we have a fulfilling LIFE.

Three reasons to quit. I hear three reasons for people leaving: a toxic environment, soul-draining work, and not contributing to a higher purpose.

Toxic environment. This is an easy one to explain. For the most part, your workspace is going to be toxic. Someone is making you do something you don’t want to do, which is toxic.

I laugh all the time when people say that the military is toxic. Making people run, hike, study, and work against their will is naturally unsettling.

Sure, you may get an outstanding leader who makes things seem okay, but they can leave, and the dynamic will change. Prepare yourself for this power dynamic as you enter the workforce.

Soul-draining work. You are likely working in an office, which gives you a reason to celebrate. Have grace that you are not building a railroad or climbing a skyscraper.

The Magic of Being a Content Creator

I worked outside with my Marines for the first 20 years of my military career. We deployed Air Traffic Control equipment all across the United States and the world. I spent some of my best days on the runway, keeping my radar spinning and watching jets take off and land.

Today, I am stuck in an office, going to meetings almost daily. I don’t find this exciting or challenging; however, I have a bigger mission in life.

Your job is not the center of your universe. It may seem like this early on, but it is barely a blip on the radar in the long run. Don’t give your work for someone else’s company more credit than it deserves.

Contribute to a higher purpose. Young people want to be part of some elusive movement or unique project. Who cares! You work your job to pay your expenses; that’s why you work.

Merry Debt-Free Christmas

In a perfect world, you would go to work happy and contribute to significant projects. Your peers, subordinates, and supervisors would all appreciate the work you deliver. They would shower you with praise every day for your efforts.

This is a dream world. Your higher purpose in life has nothing to do with your job. Sure, some smaller companies can focus on intense missions, but they are the anomaly.

Finding the right job. You aren’t going to just pull the right job out of a hat—you’ll have to build yourself to find it. The book “From Paycheck to Purpose” walks you through the steps of growing your value to achieve major career success.

But, if you are doing all this growth to find a job, why not just create your own career? The skillset to find a fantastic job is similar to that of an entrepreneur.

Should you quit your job? NO. Quitting your job only delays the enviable and avoids the more profound question. What am I supposed to do with my life?

Most people are entrepreneurial at their core. During the industrial revolution, many of us left our farms, stores, and businesses to join the workforce.

When we came into the cities, they promised us pensions for working for 30 years in the same factory. We become lazy, slow, and worst of all, dependent. We relied on companies to prepare and fund our retirements.

These companies left us at the altar when medical expenses grew to uncontrollable levels. They gave us 401Ks and ran away from the pension business as fast as possible.

Here we are today, clueless about how to work and save for retirement. We have student loan debt to our eyeballs, try to drive nice cars, and blame work for our unhappiness.

You are supposed to create. This is what you are missing in life—creation. Our brains are logical and creative. Most of our work deals with the analytical side. Thus, we need to create in our free time.

Here’s the deal. Making money from our creations, whether content or business, takes years to build and develop. So how do we make ends meet while we grow our businesses?

That’s right, our day job. That is the secret to life; building your own business while working your day job. That’s the missing element that keeps people miserable at their jobs.

The Metaverse 103: Business in the Metaverse

Your job can’t do it all. How can your job offer you a salary, personal growth, a great environment, and self-fulfillment? That is a lot to ask of anything—person or place.

You’ll need to create in your free time to get the entire spectrum of fulfillment. Growing a blog, YouTube channel, or garden on your time will give you satisfaction beyond words.

Don’t fall for the trap of trying to have your job do everything for you—it’s impossible. Start with your mission, and follow up with it daily.

My mission is to write an article and release a book every day. I have 540+ books on Amazon, and my book sales and blog numbers are slowly growing.

The Balanced Writer

Starting my business has been more fulfilling than anything I have done in my military career. I love the Marines, but I did what they directed.

When I wake up early and write and create, it’s all of my own volition. My passive income core values keep me working on my projects. I am the CEO, planner, and entry-level worker all in one. It’s amazing.

As my business grows, I understand that we should live our lives from the beginning. We should always have projects and missions that require personal development.

The great resignation is a trap. The great resignation is a trap to get you to believe there is some super great job waiting for you. And better yet, you deserve to have this job.

There is a great job out there, but it’s in your head. You must extract this job and build it over 5-10 years. That’s how you achieve your life’s work and create wealth for generations.

JOMO vs. FOMO

Conclusion. Filter out the noise about quitting your job being empowering. It’s the easy way out of a tough job market.

Stay in your job and start a business on the side—that’s the short answer. There is nothing in the workforce that is going to fulfill you like growing your own business. Here are some books to read to help you understand entrepreneurship.
