5 Takeaways from “Create Something Awesome”

Create Something Awesome” by Roberto Blake is a working template for success in any creative pursuit. If you plan on becoming a creator, this is the manual for you.

People have glamorized being a creator, with most failing to understand the amount of dedication and discipline it takes. Don’t worry; Mr. Blake is here to set everyone straight.

As a creator, it is hard to fathom how the path to success unfolds. Sometimes, your work is hot and gaining traction; other times, it’s cold and invisible.

Preparing yourself for the ups and downs of the creator economy is tough, which is why this book is so vital to your success.

1) Becoming a creator is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It takes hard work, dedication, motivation, and discipline. It can take 3-5 years just to gain a reasonable amount of traction.

2) You don’t need a massive following to support yourself with your content. You just need 1,000 Superfans willing to support you directly through purchases and subscriptions.

3) Ensure you have super high-end merchandise or purchasing options for the one percent of your audience who want to support you. Don’t leave money on the table for fear of looking greedy.

4) Always be yourself. If you change yourself to build an audience, they may bully you later. Being authentic from the start allows you to create the right audience—on your terms.

5) Don’t jump into becoming a full-time creator too soon. You could quickly burn out because your hobby is not your primary paycheck. Make sure you are doing what you want for the right reasons.

I have been a creator for almost three years now, so this book was a breath of fresh air. I watch Roberto Blake on YouTube, so I have already heard his detailed opinion of the creator economy.

Most people cannot endure the path to becoming career content creators. The trail does not unfold in a straight line—it’s more like a roller coaster.

Reading this book will help you prepare for the long, arduous journey well before it becomes long and arduous. I am a blogger, so the path was even more brutal than YouTube.

Everyone has something to give to the world. You are better at one thing than someone else. That means you can teach someone something and have the ability to be a content creator.

I recommend this book to anyone who desires more than their job. Read this book, pursue a creative outlet, and build an audience. If everything works out, you may be able to become a full-time content creator. What a fantastic time to be alive. Good Luck!
