Now that our blogging or video career is taking off, we have several options. We can stay small and operate as a solopreneur or grow our business.
Growing our business will turn our income stream from side hustle to nearly a full-fledged business. Welcome back to the Blogging vs. YouTube series (#1, #2), where we learn how to become content creators.
Time to grow. Growing larger will entail many changes to our daily routine. Because we focus on staying medium-sized, we can outsource our work to virtual assistants and freelancers.
The Magic of Leverage
If we were previously dedicating 10-20 hours a week, we would have to increase that to 30-40 hours. Hopefully, we are making enough income from our blog or YouTube channel to decrease hours at our main job.
Now, you’ll have to ask yourself a question? Do you feel comfortable being a manager? Can you delegate specific tasks and ensure the work is up to your standards?
If you feel people will “railroad you” or “run over you,” perhaps you should stay a solopreneur. If you still want to continue, read books on leadership and management before moving forward.
The number one thing you’ll have to overcome is perfectionism. Working by yourself affords you the luxury of nitpicking yourself. Now, you’ll have others involved in your business—and your money.
Coaching in the Metaverse
What tasks do my freelancers need to accomplish? Blogging and YouTube have vastly different tasks your freelancers will need to complete.
For blogging, the main task is creating content by writing posts. Luckily, a reader rarely sees your face when they read an article. Therefore, you just need to find quality voices (ghostwriters) that can substitute for you.
The main task you’ll need assistance with for YouTube is video editing. Finding a good video editor will increase your free time by 50-60%. More time will allow you to shoot more and stage your videos with better scripting, lighting, or scenery.
What tasks do my virtual assistants need to accomplish? Blogging and YouTube will use virtual assistants (VA) similarly.

You’ll need these VAs to help upload to social media, monitor social media profiles, and moderate your feedback.
They can help you enforce the content calendar you created. Also, converting a post into various social media styles (i.e., Pinterest, TikTok) will save you tons of time.
For blogging, your VA can help you with keyword research. Blogging is all about Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and if there is a new hot word, your VA can get you ahead of the power curve.

For example, the word “Metaverse” was a colossal keyword last year. This year it died off, but I feel it will make a return; that’s why I continue to pump out Metaverse content.
The advantages of growing your content business. Well, growth is always a good thing, right? Adding additional people is necessary if you are trying to make this a full-time business.
However, now you will spend more time managing “people and things” than creating content. If you love the art of creation, this may not be the route you want to take.
If you are planning to sell your business, growth will be necessary. Earning a big payout will require you to show big numbers. The book “How to Become a Capitalist with No Capital” details how to sell your business.
Stocks vs. Cryptos 2
Will you have to sell your soul to grow bigger? It depends on what you consider selling your soul. Yes, you’ll have to “write to market.” This term means you have to consider your audience, trends, keywords, and the market before you write or create a video.
There are a couple of books to read if you’re worried about selling out. “Guerilla Publishing” and “How to Blog for Profit: Without Selling Your Soul” will convince you to grow or stay small.
Do you want to grow an audience? If so, you are not selling your soul. You are simply giving your audience what they want. If you convert from a technology content creator to a romance creator solely for the increased money, you may have sold out.
Blogging vs. YouTube for medium businesses? YouTube will earn you more money at this point. Video has a chance of going viral much quicker, and people love seeing people’s faces.
The Magic of CD Ladders
People have a much better chance of connecting with you when they see and hear your voice and face—it’s human nature.
However, that’s a gift and a curse. Because everyone love’s your face, they will always want to see it. As a YouTuber, removing yourself from day-to-day activities will be increasingly complicated. Your face WILL be the daily routine of the business.
Conversely, bloggers can remove themselves from creating content at this point. You’ll never have to write again if you have a few good freelance writers.
Play Video Games for Passive Income
You can have your VA deliver hot keywords to you on Monday, send out tasks to ghostwriters on Tuesdays, and have your VA upload articles on Saturdays. Blogging is a much more passive business if you like it that way.
If you plan on selling your YouTube channel, start removing yourself from the camera. Slowly introduce other creators while ensuring your audience connects to them as well.
You’ll want a channel brand that isn’t your name (i.e., not “The Joshua King Channel)—allowing other people to buy your brand without your likeness. These are things to consider at the beginning of your entrepreneurial journey.

Conclusion. Life as a medium-sized content creator will be hectic. Maintain control, and understand that you are in charge.
You don’t have to take on more than you can chew. If you grow too large and too fast, you may achieve burnout or destroy your work-life balance.
Remember the word automation. What processes can you automate or remove? What do you do that is not buying you any dividends? Can you cut this without a notable change in channel performance?
Overcoming Limiting Beliefs #3: Investing in Real Estate
The book “You are the Brand” says it best. Only plan to introduce one significant addition to your channel per year, i.e., online courses, books, or printables on Etsy.
Whatever it is, add slowly to ensure you automate and maximize efficiencies for the year. By next year, you’ll be ready to add more.
My goal this year was to add paperbacks to my daily routine. I achieved this, and next year I want to upload my books to Apple digital stores. Slow and steady wins the battle. Good Luck!
