20 Creative Ways to Make Money From Home

We all want to live the dream life, which is to make money from home. Not only that but to be entirely on our own schedule. Can this be done? Yes, it absolutely can be accomplished; however, there is one caveat—it’ll take hard work to get it done.

When looking into my future, I knew I wanted to make money from home and on my schedule during retirement. I considered YouTube, but it was too time-intensive for my needs. Hence, I decided to become a writer; this included books and blogs. After 90 days of getting super serious about this profession, I see the fruits of my labor.

But I did more than 95% of the population will do—I read books to become better. I have read books on design, writing, advertising, blogging, business, and entrepreneurship. In total, I have completed 43 books over the last eight months and written a book review for each.

My conclusion is that anyone can do anything. The idea here is that you don’t have to be the best in your particular industry, just better than most people. For example, if you can become a content designer, you just need to be better than the folks who hire you.

I am not a great writer, graphic designer, or advertising guru, but I can do all of them to some form of success. That is what is great about this life. You genuinely don’t have to be the best and still can get beautiful results. But no matter your level, you will have to work hard and learn the ropes. I am convinced that you can do anything on this list, and I don’t even know you.

There is no such thing as easy money and for someone to buy something from you is an honor. Nobody Owes You Anything. To have people use your services or buy your products, you will have to provide value. An entrepreneur solves people’s problems at a profit by providing value. I recommend you read a book on entrepreneurship before you start any of these ventures. My two recommendations are “Company of One” and “The 4-Hour Work Week.” With my disclaimer out of the way, let’s get into it.

Services

1) Become a content designer. You may have an eye for design, or you may not. But if you can produce semi-decent products, you can make a name for yourself. Remember, not everyone is running out to pay top dollar for designs. People around your neighborhood and budding (but broke) entrepreneurs need services. The idea is to keep improving over time. Start with the basics by reading “The Non-Designer’s Design Book” and start practicing now.

2) Become an advertising specialist. Same as above, your clientele may be older folks who don’t know how to navigate Google, Facebook, or Amazon ads. Being able to create ads and also run them is actually two skills in one. I recommend that you read “The Non-Designer’s Design Book,” “Ca$hvertising,” and a book on each of the platforms you are attempting to place advertisements.

3) Become a writer. Something near and dear to my heart. Becoming a writer is vastly different than becoming a blogger. Yes, a blogger writes, but a writer always writes. If you enter this world, you understand that blogging is just media, and most people are out for the money. However, there are actual writers with passion and a strong voice. I strive to be the latter. There is a lot of money in writing for other people; advertising copy, press releases, media packets, and ghost-writing ebooks and blogs. Yes, bloggers use ghostwriters (sad face). I recommend you start with this book, “On Writing Well.

4) Become a consultant. Most people acquired some form of skill at a point in their life. You can leverage your talent to assist others that may not know much about it. For example, I spent 22 years in the military. I can use all this knowledge to help young people considering the military as an option. Remember, to create a community or audience; you need to provide value by creating and releasing free content. Providing content will help establish you as the subject matter expert. I recommend reading “Superfans.

5) Become a video editor. Every day someone else starts a YouTube channel or Facebook Group. The need for video editors is going to be huge in the coming years. I personally hate sitting in front of the computer and editing videos—that is why there is no editing in my YouTube videos. But it is a skill that you can learn and start doing very quickly. You won’t be that good at first, but all you have to do is be better than your client. Your skills (and income) will increase over time. Read “The Non-Designer’s Design Book” before you get started. There is a lot of information on fonts that is vital to your success.

Real Estate

6) Become a Real Estate Agent. I am convinced that you can be a part-time real estate agent and spend 90% of your time at home. It may be complex because you are always looking for leads. But if you can capture leads from YouTube, websites, or blogs, most of your job is done. Real Estate is primarily media-driven now, so I see this as a huge positive for tech-savvy individuals. Read the book “Sold” before you get started.

7) Find and sell cheap land. There is so much open land in America, but who owns it all? That is not the point—the point is who is behind on their tax bills? There is a way to create a list of people behind on their land tax bills and contact them to buy it. With a good strategy, you can buy a good amount at rock-bottom prices. Then you turn around and sell the land online. Better yet, you sell it via seller financing and create passive income via real estate notes. You can perform all of this from home. Yes, all of it. Read the book “Dirt Rich” for more information.

8) Find Tax Lien Properties. Similar to bargains on land, tax liens specialists look for homes that are behind on tax payments. You will have to attend auctions, but there is a chance to get good interest-bearing notes out of the process. You can do 90% of the work from home, and you will learn a lot of valuable information about real estate, properties, and housing. Read “10 Other Real Estate Investments.”

9) Become a real estate wholesaling. Wholesaling is the art of finding great real estate deals and selling them to investors for a finder’s fee. The hardest part is finding great deals. You are not going to find great deals on MLS sites like Zillow or Realtor.com. You will have to use similar tactics like finding land deals and tax liens to find these deals. The great part is that you can concentrate on any area of town that you want, and slowly build up your reputation. You will also make tons of connections in the real estate world, which will come in handy if you’re going to expand or convert to being an investor, flipper, or agent. Read my article “Is Real Estate Wholesaling for You?

10) Become a private money lender. A private money lender acts as a bank. They lend money to people looking to do deals in real estate. You will need to have money to get started, but it may not be that much, depending on your market. You can also start by doing smaller loans for mobile homes and such. Private money loans differ from hard money loans. Private money focuses more on the person taking on the loan and building recurring relationships. Hard money focuses more on the property and the deal. Read my article “Become a Private Money Lender.

Business

11) Become a content creator. You can make insane amounts of money by creating content, whether blogging, music or YouTube. But all this takes time to build and grow. It also takes knowledge, people skills, and patience. Everyone can make money on these platforms, but most people cannot get past the work involved. So I predict that 3% of the population has enough self-drive, determination, and motivation to succeed in these businesses. As a blogger, I absolutely love this world, but I know what I want to get from it. I value my free time and privacy. I don’t need to make millions from the biz; I just want some diversified income from royalties. Read the book “The Practice” and also my articles “How to Create a Never-Ending Stream of Content,” “7 Pre-Steps to Starting a Blog,” and “Why You Should become a Content Creator.”

12) Start a Herb Garden. I like this idea because any size house can do it. For this particular venture, I would use content creation as a way to maximize profits. I think growing exotic herbs would also be something that many people would find engaging. Read my article “Run a Profitable Herb Garden.

13) Start a rental car business. There is a shortage of rental cars across the nation. People are also looking for cheaper rates and better service. There are a couple of rental car sites that allow you to provide your car as a rental. You can make some great money, especially if you can afford to purchase a nice $10,000 Toyota or Ford to be used exclusively for the business. Read my articles “Start a Luxury Vehicle Business” and “What a Tesla? Start a Rental Car Business.

14) Start a farm. Yes, I am serious. Starting a farm can have more streams of income than anything in the article. Plus, if you throw in the business’s social media/content creation side, you can make great money. Don’t get me wrong, it will be hard labor, but it is honest work. People will start to move back to the earth; we have been in office buildings too long. Be at the forefront of the move. Read my article “Buy Land, Start Farm” and the book “Dirt Rich”—a different book than the book of the same title earlier in the article.

15) Become a wellness leader. Do you like nutrition, dieting, vegan, vegetarian, fitness, exercise, running, etc. I consider all these wellness areas, and they are ALWAYS in demand. You see, people want people that inspire them, and everyone wants something different. Someone may wish for someone twenty years younger than them to encourage them or maybe someone twenty years older. There is always someone in need of your motivation and knowledge. This is a great field, especially if you are looking to make $3,000 to $5,000/month. Once you try to earn a full-time income, things will become different. You will have to upsell people other products and services. I know I wouldn’t be comfortable with that. Read my article “Choose Your Content Niche: Health, Wealth, or Relationships.

Investing

16) Become an options trader. Disclaimer all these investing professions can be perilous and downright dangerous if you jump in without knowledge. You can lose serious money here. Options trading can be a very lucrative way to earn money if you are going for the big wins. But you can also lose big. Successful options traders are looking for (sometimes) lower returns and consistency. There are ways to make good, consistent money in the field. If you have a gambling or addictive personality, or you are unstable, stay away! Read the book “The Options PlayBook” before you get started.

17) Become a Commodities Trader. Everything I said about options trading is even worse here. Commodities are even riskier than options and cost even more just to play. Again, these are lifestyles that require knowledge to make money. Suppose you are trying to diversify your income from home. In that case, I recommend reading a few books, watching YouTube, and opening a paper-trading (demo) account, and doing all these over a year before you start playing with real money. Yes, for a year, that is how serious this business is. Read the book “A Trader’s First Book on Commodities.

18) Become a FOREX Trader. FOREX is the foreign money exchange market. Same as the other two. All recommendations are similar. You can make money, but you have to put in serious work to understand the business and even more work to make money. Read my article “My Foray in FOREX.

19) Become a CryptoCurrency insider. Crypto is the new hotness, and there are so many different types of crypto coming out every day. Keeping up with everything is a full-time job, and those who can stay afloat will make a ton of money. Even better, those that can open blogs for the masses will triple, even quadruple, their earnings. The masses want to get in, but without doing any work. They want someone to feed them knowledge and information. If you have the dedication to the crypto field, it could be you. Read my article “Why I am Investing in Bitcoin.

20) Become a Dividend Growth Investor. My favorite on this list is DGI. However, the problem is you will need money to make money in this particular field. Once you have dividends coming in passively, you can use those dividends to buy even more stocks. I recommend combining this with another moneymaker, like renting rooms, to help fund this endeavor. People love reading and watching dividend growth investors, which is another way to create different revenue streams. Read my series “Investing for Dividends 101.

There you have it. I believe that anyone can do well at these endeavors if they so choose. If I can become a writer, then you can do anything in the world as well. The most important question is, “What is your why?” Making money is not your why—you will have to find your true why. If you can, then that will be your motivation in the months before you start to see signs of success. Good Luck!
