5 Takeaways from “Walk Yourself Wealthy”

Walk Yourself Wealthy” by Dominic Hodgson is the ultimate guide to running an elite dog-walking business.

I chose this book because I have a dog, am retiring, and want to stay in shape. Therefore, perhaps dog walking is something I can do in my spare time.

Dog walking is a business. As such, you can position yourself at the bottom or the top of the clientele in your area. Of course, you should strive to only deal with high-level, high-paying clients.

1) You can niche down your dog-walking service to specific breeds—giving you less traffic but a higher potential for pay.

2) Offer more walking options than just different lengths of time. You can offer various adventures, grooming or petting. This will give you more of an “all-around” service than just bare minimum walking.

3) To ensure people perceive you as the ultimate professional, you’ll need to write a book. Trust me; it’s not that difficult.

4) You want to shift to a lead-generation style advertising model. This model is more effective than blasting out advertising via newsletters and commercials.

5) Don’t compete for low-hanging customers that haggle over price. They will become a thorn in your side rather quickly.

Lead generation marketing involves getting people’s email addresses. This method requires some kind of lead generation product, such as a free ebook or report.

Once you have a lead’s email, you can follow up. They call this warming up the customer. Eventually, you will be top of mind when they need a dog walker.

I don’t foresee myself starting a massive dog-walking business; however, making a few hundred dollars a month sounds great.

If you love dogs, exercise, and money (we all should), becoming a dog walker may be an excellent choice. I recommend this book to entrepreneurs who think outside the box.
