Time is the most valuable resource on this planet. We spend our lives trying to buy freedom from the workforce; for most people, we call this retirement.
One of the cruel ironies of life is that we can buy our freedom much sooner by spending more time earlier. Sounds confusing, right?
You need assets to work for you. If your only income is from your job, you are not exerting any leverage. When you don’t work, you don’t earn money.
Dividend Investing in Your 60s
The key to life is to make money while you sleep, but you will need assets to do this. Assets such as blogs, books, videos, rental properties, bonds, and dividends take a lot of work to obtain.
You can buy assets, create assets, or build assets. By slowly starting a business, you are making an asset you can leverage for the rest of your life.
An online business is the way. If you only have one hour a day to dedicate to a business, you will want to start an online business. In particular, you will want to start a blog.
You can also create other forms of content, such as YouTube, music, podcasting, etc. However, a blog works best in this short format and timeline.
Passive Income Road Trip #6: Royalties
Why blogging is great. Blogging is a fantastic opportunity for busy people because of how Google Search functions.
Google search works differently than algorithms like YouTube and Tik Tok. The longer and more consistent your blog performs, the more traffic it attracts.
Therefore, you will slowly drive traffic to your site if you consistently produce one to two blog posts weekly.
In the long run, blogs will produce passive income if you don’t upload every week or month. You essentially create your own presence on the internet.
Passive Income Road Trip #2: Retirement Planning
With Tik Tok, YouTube, and even books, your numbers will begin to diminish if you stop producing. You need to keep making content to attract eyeballs.
The long-term plan of a blog. Once you build a backlog of content, you will start to get traffic from Google Search.
Once you have organic traffic from search, you have the holy grail of internet business—free traffic. From here, you can add as many ideas as you like to monetize your traffic.
You can drive traffic to your books, merchandise, online courses, etc. You will have achieved the toughest part of any business: driving traffic.
Home Cash: Online Business vs. House Hacking
How to spend your one hour. Seeing significant traffic on your site may take a few years, but that is okay. It is crucial to building an excellent foundation for your blog in the meantime.
Your first decision is to choose how many weekly posts you want to produce. If you spend one hour a day making one post a week, it better be an amazing post.
Writing one post a week gives you time to research your topic, add photos, and ensure you have search engine optimization techniques. Your week may look something like this:
- Monday- Choose a topic and conduct research
- Tuesday- Write a post (1000 words)
- Wednesday- Edit post
- Thursday- Add photos or cover art
- Friday- Upload and release post
- Saturday- Publish a post on social media, Facebook group, and LinkedIn (if applicable)
- Sunday- Plan content, review blog performance, update the website, and do general housekeeping
Starting is tough. Unfortunately, your content, in the beginning, will suck. Your information will be okay, but you will need help understanding how to present it correctly.
Inflation Ate My Paycheck 107: Cellphone Upgrade vs. Dividends
Writing to an audience is different from writing a school paper. You will need to create catchy titles and snappy transitions. However, the only way to learn is to keep writing.
Therefore, I would focus more on quantity upfront, not necessarily quality. If you try to create a perfect post upfront, you will burn out quickly.
For this reason, I would create two 500-word posts per week. This will allow you to find your voice and what your audience loves while building a massive back catalog of content. Your week could look something like this:
- Monday- Write and Edit the post
- Tuesday- Add photos and upload the post
- Wednesday- Post on social media
- Thursday- Write and Edit Post
- Friday- Add photos and upload the post
- Saturday- Post on social media
- Sunday- Conduct research for the upcoming week, general housekeeping
Time is of the essence. You don’t start a blog with the intent to make money soon. Blogging is the “wine” of passive income. It takes time to age but is worth a lot of money in the future.
Overcoming Limiting Beliefs 103: Investing in Real Estate
As you dedicate one hour daily, ensure you have the right long-term mindset. You will see little traffic for 2-3 years.
It also depends on your niche. Writing about money, finances, relationships, or health is much tougher to rank. It will take time to break into these niches.
However, you can rank much sooner if you niche down to a more “random” topic (say underwater welding). For example, I choose to write about personal finance, which is a tough category.
Debt-Free Society: Beat Student Loan Debt
I could have written about life in the military, specifically the Marine Corps. I have spent 23 years in the Corps, and it would be a great niche to discuss.
However, my true passion is talking about passive income, so I went with my gut. It is a long road, so choose something where you can go the distance.
Conclusion. I am two years into my blog, and I have 1,114 articles posted. However, I also dedicate 5-6 hours daily to my work.
You can reach massive numbers, but it will take time. Do not worry about how many posts someone else has on their blog.
The important thing is that each post buys you time in the future. Eventually, after ten years, your blog can earn you $5,000-$10,000/month in passive income.
Staying Debt-Free in Your 70s
You can then entertain the idea of slowing down at your job or going into blogging, YouTubing, and podcasting full-time.
If you want the results, you’ll have to do the work. It is not easy. Let me repeat for effect; blogging is not easy.
However, it is best to build toward passive income with one hour a day. You will learn so much about SEO, business, passive income, advertising, affiliate marketing, etc., that it will change your life.
Blogging has changed my life for the better. Whenever I come home from work, I can see my blog posts have been working hard. Having other assets working just as hard as I am is a great feeling. Good luck!
