Homeschooling vs. Real Estate Prices

One of the primary reasons people select their homes is because of the school districts. Unfortunately, most homeowners and investors leverage this dynamic to increase prices in neighborhoods with good schools.

But what if you decided to homeschool your children? Could you afford more homes farther away from the city center? Today, I want to explore why homeschooling is the future of education and how we can benefit from this shift.

The case for homeschooling. Do you have children in the public school education system? How is that working out for you?

I attended the public school system in the not-so-great parts of San Diego, California. I turned out okay because teachers were much more passionate about their jobs, plus my parents were strict.

Today, things have changed. As with everything in life, school is a commodity. The goal is to push almost every kid through school, hoping someone along the line will help them catch up.

To some extent, I agree with this philosophy. I was a head supervisor at a military initial progression school, and I understand why we must push kids through the pipeline.

Why hold a kid back if they are not going to receive any extra instruction or guidance? The problem is that when their knowledge base is weak, adding “more” on top isn’t going to help either.

The Magic of Living Below Your Means

One-on-one instruction. Homeschooling gives you a chance to be your child’s teacher and mentor. I finished the book “The Independent Homeschool” to better understand how to run a homeschool.

Most people worry about becoming a teacher for their children. They feel that they have to comprehend everything the child is learning. However, the main goal of homeschooling is to build an independent learner.

Public schools mostly fail at teaching kids how to learn on their own. As independent learners, they can consume the material and seek further guidance through additional resources.

For example, if they are learning long division, they may complete additional problem sets because they are uncomfortable with the material.

Why I Became an Income Investor

Somehow, I became an independent learner along my path through public school. I never feared learning, thinking, and doing. That’s why I can read 130 books, write book reports for my blog, and have over 1,000 articles in two years.

If creating independent learners is of interest to you, I refer you to the above book. It will help you feel more comfortable with the idea of running a homeschool.

Increasing real estate prices. So what does homeschooling have to do with real estate prices? Like remote work, homeschooling allows you to push further from high prices inside big cities.

If you combine remote work, online business, and homeschooling, you can set yourself up on a lovely homestead away from everyone.

A High-Value Person Earns $100,000/Year Passively

The history of the suburbs. It’s funny how the myth of the two-income family came to prominence. The book “The Two-Income Trap” by Elizabeth Warren does a great job of telling us how suburban dreams are a myth.

In a nutshell, the media lured women away from staying home with children and into the workforce. For a while, households with two working parents had an advantage in the suburban housing market.

However, more and more women entered the workforce to get into better neighborhoods and school districts. Soon, housing prices increased to account for two working-parent households.

Today, the expectation is for not only both parents to work but to have high-paying jobs. I can tell you from living in San Diego for three months that big city life is expensive

If you want any chance of getting ahead, putting your kids through college, AND saving for retirement, you’ll have to look at the big picture.

The Beauty of Rental Income

Society vs. two working parents. Not to mention, society is actively working against two working-parent households. It is nearly impossible to get anything done without taking off work.

My kids are 15 and 11, and new rules, regulations, timelines, and hours come out each year to make it more difficult for us to manage our work and home lives.

You’ll be hard-pressed to take your kid to the dentist’s office because dentists work the same hours as you. Plus, the school has specific timelines you have to follow. It is stressful dealing with appointments, let alone emergencies.

Child care is expensive, and the bus schedule changes daily. If you have kids at different schools, it is a nightmare to juggle their separate timelines. It is so much better to homeschool your kids in today’s world.

Use Dividends as Your Safety Net

Where to live. You will still need to be careful about where you decide to move. Each state and county have some measure of control over your homeschool.

The book mentions an online certification process that supersedes the local school districts. I would look into this option. The further away you can get from the schools, the better.

I am sure you want your kids to have friends and interact with other children. You may even want to talk to other parents in the area.

Transfer of Wealth on the Metaverse

Thus, moving to the middle of nowhere may not be for you. However, a small, rural town may be a great compromise. You can get a nice home on a substantial plot of land and start a homeschool, garden, and farm

Conclusion. For a while, say in the 1990s, having two working parents was a benefit—those days are over. Rich people live on passive income and have the time (and resources) to dedicate to their children’s education.

Poor people are working two jobs to afford a neighborhood with a good school district. As the working class moves to these districts, good teachers are moving to private schools.

Create an Online Course for Passive Income

It’s a losing battle that is not worth playing. We have the tools (internet, homeschool, remote work, garden, farm, homestead) to escape to the hills. Our kids can grow up with us as teachers and outdoor nature as their guide.

It’s an exciting future (that returns to the past) and one that I hope to give to my grandkids. Private school is not the answer, as it is more of doubling down inside the suburban life.

I think homesteading and homeschooling are the best way to give our kids the highest quality environment and education. But what do you think? Would you consider homeschooling as an option? Good Luck!
