“60 Days to LinkedIn Mastery” by Josh Steimle is a masterpiece on how to build an audience. He focuses on LinkedIn mastery in his book, but the general concepts you can use anywhere.
Growing an audience is tough, especially if you don’t know the particulars of each platform. I have a small number of followers on YouTube, Amazon, WordPress, and Scribd. Each of these requires different actions on my part.
The genius of this book is that it allows you to hone in directly on what makes LinkedIn unique. After taking his 60-day challenge, you will understand how to grow an audience by creating compelling content.
1) You have to want other people genuinely to create an audience. People will run away from your message if you are doing it solely to sell a product. What problem are you attempting to solve for your customers?
2) Native videos and short articles work best on LinkedIn for this moment in time. The algorithm constantly changes, so you must stay abreast of that dynamic. However, good content will always draw a crowd.
3) Become a thought leader. If you want a following, especially on LinkedIn, you need to become a thought leader. This term means different things to different people, but here’s my take. When you can combine two or more ideas into a wholly new concept and convey the information successfully, you become a thought leader.
4) Build meaningful connections instead of looking to grow your metrics. If someone follows you, ensure they are a meaningful part of your network. Don’t just seek to expand your audience to a large subset of subscribers.
5) It’s all about the network of your network. The more extensive your direct network, the more significant your network of networks grows. The growth is exponential at that point.
Another good tip is to join LinkedIn groups. They are not as exciting as Facebook groups, but when you seek to connect to someone, it will say, “is also a member of this group.”
You can use groups to share a common bond with someone you want to connect with on the platform. Groups can serve as an icebreaker of sorts.
This book will help anyone feel comfortable with LinkedIn. I wish I had the time to dedicate myself to growing my profile on the platform. However, I can at least spend my time wisely with these few tips.
This book is excellent for anyone interested in growing a following on adding value to others on LinkedIn. However, it is also a step-by-step guide to growing an audience in general. This is a must-read book if you are serious about business, creating content, or networking.
