It NEVER ceases to amaze us that whenever I get stationed away from my wife, something crazy happens soon after I leave. I recently left for Okinawa, Japan (August 2020). And sure enough, less than a month after I leave a major hurricane rocks Pensacola, Florida, and surrounding areas. Kris and the family made it out unscathed, however, multiple trees fell over and our land was flooded. The neighborhood was partly destroyed and power was lost for 48 hours. We are glad that not much damage was done but the water from the creek and the pond were amazingly close to getting into the house. Other people in the surrounding areas did not fare as well.
Luckily Kris and I had bought some strong (1kw and 500w) power generators that were battery powered. They also can be recharged via solar panels. Kris also has a bbq pit and some charcoal. Once the storm has subsided, Kris was able to go outside and cook on the grill. Real-life camping. Because she had a power source, she was able to stay in contact with me via phone. Of course, I was completely helpless because I am in Japan. Many of my friends came over and checked on Kris during the storm. The best way to describe the hurricane is with pictures. We are still counting our blessings. I am proud of my wife and family for being strong during this trying time.
