The Marine Security Guard Chronicles Vol #1 – Introduction

When I was young in the Corps, there was a saying. “Everyone wants to be a Marine, and every Marine wants to be a Marine Security Guard”. I find that to be completely true. It truly is the best duty in the Marine Corps. Over the course of this series, I will talk about as much as I can remember about MSG duty. Thankfully, I have a ton of pictures. This series may span well over 100 articles. Not only I am writing to my readers but also to my family and friends. Many people have not had the honor and privilege of traveling as much as I have.

Let’s start with my timeline of MSG duty.

Aug 2001 – An MSG contact team visited Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California. I joined that day.

September 11, 2001 – We all know what happened.

May 2002 – I left for MSG School in Quantico, Va.

July 2002 – I arrived at my first post, Niamey, Niger, West Africa.

September 2003 – I arrived at my second post, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Central Asia.

June 2005 – I arrived at my final post, Helsinki, Finland, Europe.

Feb 2006 – Married my amazing wife, Kristina in Helsinki, Finland. She is from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

My intent is to keep these articles fairly short. Maybe once they are done I will put them all together in a book.

2002, Niamey, Niger, West Africa
