Did you finally finish your Netflix tv series? How about defeating the final boss in your open-world videogame? Good! Now, let’s work on creating long term wealth for you and your family. Creating a blog, starting a YouTube channel, or opening a Facebook group can propel you to great wealth and success. Content creation is one of the purest forms of making money in the world. You may have to spend a little money on getting started, less than $1000, but after that, it is your work that gets you paid. The only caveat is that you need to be consistent. Being consistent helps you to build an audience. Once you have an audience the sky is the limit. There is an unlimited amount of money to be made, and your imagination is the only thing that can hold you back. But why is it so important to become a content creator in 2021?
1) You will grow exponentially. I learned so much about myself, my family, and everything in between when I started my blog in June 2020. You start off and you have exactly no idea what you are doing. But after that, every day you learn more and more about this whole new world. You also learn about yourself. You will have to build yourself into a writer or public speaker. The harder you work, the less it becomes about the blog, and the more it becomes about you.
2) You have a great imagination, you just don’t know it. When you start, you will be throwing darts at the wall, trying to figure out what to say. But as you keep going, you will start to truly appreciate other people’s content as well. The thing is, you will start to see other content differently because you will also be a content creator. You may read an article, watch a video, or see a headline that triggers you to think about your reaction to it. Then you will want to create content based on your different ideas, thoughts, and personal experiences. You will find yourself consuming more media but in a different way. You will look at blogs from the ground up, not just the words, because you have been creating your own blog. Between the world’s content, your own imagination, and your experiences, there is an amazing amount that you can create. I literally have 100+ article ideas written down. My only issue is that now they are so deep that no one will be able to follow them. So I actually have to dial them back. One day, I will create a blog for deep thinking and reflection.
3) You already live in the 4th dimension, you may as well go all in. The 4th dimension in the movies is when the actors acknowledge that they are in a video and that the camera exists. It is usually talked about in comedies like “Scary Movie.” With the rise of social media, you are already in the limelight, you may as well become a true content creator. The only difference is that you will be making a concerted effort to make content. This will actually push you to try new things and experience more in life. Why stay in your bubble when you can expand beyond it?
4) You will help others. You cannot become rich without helping others. You may think that the world is saturated with YouTube stars and blogs, and it is. But there is an unlimited amount of space in the world for talent and hard work. Remember that people WANT to listen to people with who they resonate. My wife and I could say the exact same words, but our audiences will be completely different. Think about what makes you unique. I am a Marine, black, from San Diego, 40 years old, married to a beautiful Russian woman, have kids, have 3 houses, play Pokemon, and on a journey to financial independence. How many people in the world are like me? Any one of these facts can help someone else resonant with me. Every day someone graduates from high school. Every day someone becomes a Marine. There are few mentors left in the world and people now gravitate to content creators to fill the void. You have something to say, so say it.
5) The money will be extremely good. If you can get past the first year or two, the money will become extremely good. Trust me, I have been at it for 6 months and made $2. But I have had some really great phone calls in regards to my work. Really humbling phone calls from people I know and love, saying that my work is making them think about things in their life. It is an amazing feeling. I also created my first asset! I used some new content and other content from my blog to make my first book. And it looks amazing. This book is an asset that can make me money, bring in new followers, and help advertise for me. I can tell you that it is an amazing feeling. The book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” said the goal of life is to CREATE (not buy) assets that produce you money, and I did it. It is surreal, and I just did it in small portions. The book stands on its own, alongside me, to help build wealth for me and my family. The journey has been worth it, just for this moment alone.
6) Do it for your family. Your family is going to be so proud of you. You are going into a brave new world, where you are putting yourself in front of a harsh audience. It takes perseverance and dedication (like the Marines), and only a few can do it. 97% of the population is content going to work and collecting a paycheck. Some want more. To be able to have your kids be proud of you is amazing and it also breaks down the barriers of fear for them. My oldest son said that he wanted to open a dog training facility when he grows up. I said great, we are also going to blog and YouTube about your journey as well. Now you have 3 income streams from one venture. It is ridiculous how everything exponentially grows when you let it.
What are the 4 different platforms that I recommend?
1) Blogs. Blogs are a great way to get into the content creation world. I recommend everyone to start here. It is the most forgiving. You can practice creating content. And once you have enough content you can use it in all other forms of media. You can turn your post into videos, drop into Facebook groups, send emails, and create books from them. It is truly a jack of all trades medium, plus learning how to write is such a worthwhile endeavor. I was reading a truly great real estate article written in 2012. The staying power of what you write is almost timeless.
2) YouTube. YouTube is the most time consuming but all the most lucrative. You will have to get over certain fears and be super consistent, but the money is there. In order to keep the money rolling in for the long term, you will have to keep producing videos and staying relevant. I have no desire to work a second job, no matter the money, so I prefer blogging. Either way, you will need to build your email contact list.
3) Facebook Group. This is a great way to interact with your audience and test my ideas out. It also can support you no matter the endeavor. You can post your videos and blogs inside your group. You can also support other people’s content as well. It is a well-rounded way to keep the ideas flowing. Remember, your audience will dictate your content.
4) Email list. The king of all media. No one talks about email, but it is truly the best way to keep an audience long term. People are more likely to purchase something from you via email than any other medium. By a large margin! Usually, you have to entice people with a free product in order to get their email addresses. But, make no mistake, this should always be your first priority no matter how you create content.
Now it is time for you to start out on your journey. Remember, you don’t have to go live right away. You can write as many blog posts as you want before you open a blog. I write all my posts in Google Docs first. You can do the same. Or you can start recording video and sending to family. Do not overthink it. No matter where you start, your content probably will not be good. So you may as well just start and get the bad out. The more you do it, the more everything naturally refines its self. Trust me, I am a 22 year Marine, I live by rules and regulations. Being creative isn’t really necessary for my daily job. If I can do it, you can do it. Good luck, and I am here to assist!
