What Type of Home Business Should You Start 4: Content

There has never been a better time to create a business from home. The massive amount of opportunities available via your computer and internet connection is incredible. My favorite business model is content creation, and I will explain why during this article.

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the What Type of Home Business Series (Introduction, Outside, Online). Today I will explain why every business out there, online or physical, needs some element of content creation. Let’s begin.

What is content? Content is something you create to build trust, give information, and display your expertise. Yes, you can develop jokes and silly videos, but those will be hit or miss in the long run.

The Metaverse 103: Business in the Metaverse

No, we want to create high-quality content based on our niche or business. The magic of being a content creator is that anything you desire can gain a following.

The counterargument to creating anything you want is being consistent. If I want to create a YouTube channel based solely on beach meditation, I can. However, I have to be there every single day, presenting my content.

Create Content Daily. Indeed, creating content daily is the best way to gain a following. Yes, some people will create less content and advertise more, but that’s not my method.

Creating content every day makes you into a problem solver, critical thinker, and a person of action. You have to observe people and listen to conversations. For example, a work friend of mine talked about Real Estate Tokenization one day.

I went home and started researching because I had never heard of this concept before. I combined the ideas with all my cryptocurrency content to create a book. That book has been a great seller this far.

Before you can build a content business, you need quality content. Your first tries at creating content will suck. However, that is part of the process, and you should look forward to these abominations.

It takes 10,000 hours to become great at something, so the faster you jump in full steam, the sooner you get to the good stuff. I have about 1,000+ hours of writing and another 1,000+ hours creating art and covers.

I still have a long way to go, but I love looking back at my first articles and covers. They were fundamental and straightforward. That’s part of the charm of starting from scratch. My advice is to create for five years before you start a business.

Five Years—oh my! Yes, I say five years because this will give you the direction and clarity you need about yourself and your business. That doesn’t mean that you can’t make money or grow a following in this timeline.

I have been at this for about 13 months now, and my Facebook Group has 1,400 followers; and I earn roughly $80/month from book sales on Amazon. I also have additional income coming in from affiliate sales.

HOW to Use Credit Cards

I will keep everything simple for the next five years because I want to reach 250 episodes of Financial Independence Magazine and have $1 million in my dividend portfolio. At that point, I can focus on my business and my brand.

Of course, you can come in, make content for a year, and start advertising, marketing, and multitasking. But, I wouldn’t want to get in front of an audience without having social proof that I grinded my way to success.

When someone sees me with 1,000+ books on Amazon, 2,000+ articles on my blog, and $1 million in my dividend portfolio, they have to take me seriously.

To me, it’s very similar to being in the Marine Corps. I enlisted 23 years ago, and now, I am a Master Gunnery Sergeant (E-9). When I get in front of a group of Marines, they know I grinded my way to the top. I went through every single rank, and I took no shortcuts.

That’s the same way I view my content creation business and brand. I want to show how much work I completed to get where I am currently. Again, you may be different.

The Average Millionaire has 7 Streams of Income

Types of Content Creation. Fortunately, there are all kinds of content creators and ways to communicate your message. Let’s take a look at the top six methods to create content.

1) Music. There are many ways to make passive income from music beyond singing and dancing. You just need to find something passionate about and keep grinding away.

2) Photography. Photography is excellent if you genuinely love taking pictures. You can upload your photos to stock photo sites, or you can gain a following as a photo instructor.

3) Art & Design. Art & Design will make a massive comeback with the rise of Non-Fungible Tokens. Also, you can create a collection of art for people’s logos and tattoos.

4) Video. Everyone thinks of YouTube as the only video business out there. For the most part, they are correct, but creating an online course is another means to make money with video content.

5) Audio & Speech. Creating a podcast is a great way to build your brand. You can also write books and make audiobook voiceovers for passive income.

6) Writing. My favorite way to create content is writing, of course. You can build so many additional income streams from writing that you can become lost. My advice is to focus on becoming a great writer, and the rest will slowly come to you.

Choose your order of success. These methods work together and are interlocking fields of fire (military term). I highly recommend not attempting to start all of these at once.

Multi-Generational Investing

The book “You Are The Brand” gives us a better way to plan our content rollout. You can add a new content technique every year if you so desire. So it may look like this: 2022-writing, 2023-podcast, 2024-YouTube, etc.

This timeline allows us to understand each content medium, become reasonably good at it, and move on to the new one. I will stick with writing for another four years exclusively before I transition to the next one—but that’s just me.

Conclusion. This article doesn’t have to be overly long because there is much more to dig into with the supporting pieces. Each type of content is different, as is each platform. So the question becomes, what do you want to accomplish?

If you are starting a food truck business, you may create content about the background of your menu selection. If you are a personal trainer, you may create short workout videos.

However, if you build a brand without having a supplemental job, proceed more cautiously. You have to prove to the world that you are a subject matter expert. Usually, creating a brand, if done correctly, leads to partnerships, sponsorships, or brand deals.

How to Retire in California

These are huge wins, but it takes a long time to build your reputation. Building a personal brand is the holy grail of success (look at Oprah), but prepare yourself for the long path ahead.

If you are creating a passive income stream, you can approach it differently. This is where I am currently at, building an income stream (while working a job). I have other revenue streams, so my time is valuable. I don’t want to travel or become a prominent writer (at least not yet).

Know yourself, your dreams, and where you envision your business heading. As a content creator, I can tell you that it is a fantastic ride and one that keeps surprising you daily. Good Luck!
