The Story: Wow! 2009 was an amazing year. For the second article out of 3, I didn’t realize how much we did in 2009 until I started looking through all the pictures. This was a quiet year from an accomplishment perspective. However, we were able to get settled into our new home, spend lots of time with each other, our son, my mom, our family, and our friends. We were stationed in Yuma, Az for the entire year. I love time in the desert, Kris not so much. We did a lot of things in the desert and we also were able to travel around a lot.
I had a three-week training course in Pensacola, Fl. This was actually 8 years before Kris and I would be stationed there in 2017. It was an amazing trip and really cemented Pensacola as a place that I love. We traveled to Southern California to go to Disneyland. Dan, our 3-year-old, was a little too young to go, so just the two of us went. It was a great time. Nowadays, we wouldn’t value a trip like this as much, but back then it was exciting. We then went to Las Vegas for the first time together. It was a short trip but it opened up the doors for us to take many similar short vacations together. After that, we went to Brooklyn (Red Hook), New York to visit my brother. I have all the details of this trip here: https://militaryfamilyinvesting.com/2020/09/23/travel-blog-4-brooklyn-ny-2/
We also were able to travel to San Diego one final time. We got to spend some time with my Grandpa, which is very important to me. I went on a one-month deployment to the middle of the Yuma desert. All and all, a very stress-free year where we mostly were able to focus on each other. We learned that traveling was one of our favorite things to do. This is one of those great, quiet years that you forget about until you look into it. What an amazing life!
