Life Mission Statement

You know, I have never considered having a mission statement for our life before. However, I just finished writing about our investment mission statement and realized this wasn’t all-encompassing. Having a life mission statement is just as important.

A lot of the military people I know say that their life mission statement is something like, “Retire, get a boat, get a RV, and hang out.” Or something like, “Retire, never work again, and just hang out.” I completely understand those mindsets. The average American couple probably would say, “Pay off mortgage and all debts, ensure kids get to college, get a boat, and vacation as much as possible.” Again, this are good goals and statements. At least it is keeping the families on the straight and narrow and traveling down a path of financial indepence.

I want more. I also want less. I want to do more for my children. I want to do more for my wife. I want fewer cars, boats, 5 wheelers, RVs, ATVs, jet skis, expensive houses, etc. I want a simple life where dividends are paying me while I spend time with my family. I want my wife to be happy and satisfied with me. I want her to feel loved and taken care of. I want us to be able to spend as much time together as possible. I want to be able to see my kids every day. I want to help my kids raise their kids (our grandkids).

Therefore, our life mission statement is, “To make business and investment income choices that allow our family to spend as much time building relationships and growing together as possible.”

What is your life mission statement? This may be difficult to write down now. Sometimes we cannot look too far ahead if we have a few roadblocks in our way. Do not worry, it will come to you.

2017, with Mom.
